Make Sanskrit India's National Language

To The Government of India:

This petition is to solicit nationwide support to make Sanskrit National Language of India.

WHY?

  1. Sanskrit is the oldest, most highly evolved language in the world.
  2. Till now, unanimous support from all localities has not been achieved for any single language. Sanskrit, no doubt will be acceptable to all.
  3. Sanskrit carries with it our ancient culture and has the capability to assimilate any level of modernization and advancement.
  4. Major Indian languages are derived from Sanskrit. It should already have been accepted as National Language.
  5. Sanskrit is fundamentally strong in phonetic and grammar.
  6. Sanskrit is purely a scientific language. Every word and character has a definite reason and meaning to it for pronunciation, meaning and formation of new words.
  7. It is easy to learn Sanskrit, as most of the Indians already know the alphabets, as they are already being used in major Indian languages.

ACTIONS REQUIRED:

  1. Declare Sanskrit - the National Language of India.
  2. Make a time-bound plan for Sanskrit literacy taking help of NGO's if required.
  3. Make Sanskrit a compulsory subject for study in Middle and High schools.
  4. Promote Sanskrit to be made an elective subject in schools across the world.

It is high time that we demand all school boards and minority schools to offer Sanskrit as a compulsory language in their school curriculum. Sanskrit will help bring our kids and us closer to India.

Internationally also, we have been seeing the trend... people moving towards eastern culture, now moving deeper into the roots - taking initiation, singing Name, chanting, practicing yoga etc. We see growing interest in these traditional sciences and people living with greater understanding. But, something is missing when they are attracted towards eastern culture. Originality is missing. It is true many a time with the eastern born and brought ups also. They also feel not connected to the root. The missing link can only be connected with the classical language - Sanskrit.

On the onset, it might look impractical to propose an ancient language for acceptance as a National or International language 'for all modes of communication'. But, that cannot be accepted as a sufficient reason to stop us promoting Sanskrit, as it will have long lasting benefits for the generations to come. Every alphabet of Sanskrit carries life in it. It is alive. It implements itself. Very sound of the character implements the deep meaning living in it in the words using them. Sanskrit is not limited to just forming a set of characters to provide a piece of information. It is much more than that. Vedic mathematics, Mantra Yoga etc. are some of the easily graspable benefits that have become popular recently.

Sanskrit is the best language in this world that can assimilate and give us the best of both worlds - ancient world and the modern world.

If Sanskrit declared as Official language

Sanskrit is a language not confined to any religion or a region. She is beyond every diversity we have. She is the mother of all indian languages and has even been a fundamental framework of many foreign languages including English. She has the power to bridge the gaps between each of us(state, religion, language). She is the most ancient heritage of this great land and she rightly deserves her honour.Besides, most of the regional languages have their roots in Sanskrit. So it will not be a problem in learning the language.I wish Sanskrit is encouraged in every institution. The language always plays a major role in improving the character(a character which is of utmost purity) of a person and I feel Sanskrit can transform an individual towards a honest and an enlightened life. From my 8 year study of Sanskrit i personally feel that Sanskrit language if made India's national language can imbibe moral and ethical values in every individual and its study can make life a lot worthy and inspiring.I,myself have experienced its divinity and the beautiful words it has can never be found in any other language.I strongly feel that Sanskrit should be made India's national language, further it should be taught in every educational institution in the world.

Great Idea !

I completely agree. We should propose making Sanskrit the sole National Language. And Hindi should be banished from Official use. This is the perfect argument against those wild-eyed Hindi fanatics who want to destroy other cultures. What could be more Indian than Sanskrit ? Sanskrit is uniquely our own, unlike Hindi which is basically a Muslim language, with most words from either Persian or Arabic. Hindi and Urdu are pretty much the same, even though the Hindi fanatics would have us believe otherwise. Sanskrit will not threaten other languages, unlike Hindi. Rather it will complement them and enrich them. It will gradually take the place of English in Indian culture.

Sanskrit to be the National Language

Yes,Sanskrit is to be the National Language of India. What ever the Community You belong. What ever be Your caste you are. What ever your place to be.it does not matter. You have to learn Sanskrit.Other wise there will be no Meaning of Indian Culture and History.Other wise It's all like equal to pakistan or saudi or Bangladesh. So my request to National Authorities to take a decision that Sanskrit has to be our National Language.Because it does not belong to any Regional Language and it has an equal advantage and disadvantage to the Whole India. and Rename India as a "Sanskrita Bharatiyam".Means a new Redefine India. That will be accepted by Whole India with out any Consequences.Because sanskrit is the 'Mother of all Languages'.

Jai sanskrit and Jai Bharatiyam

Sanskrit should be made national language

Tamil fanatics should restrain from calling tamil older than sanskrit.

They should go by reality that Sanskrit is older and richer than any language in this world.

These people should also stop dravidian racism on rest of India.

Sanskrit has all richness to become national language of India.

Make Sanskrit India's National Language

Dear Friend

Sanskrit will never look like this at all I think it may be a Marathi or so called Hindi.or some other north Indian Language that U have written. The Script may be u have written in Devanagari script that is not at all equal to Sanskrit.try in another way for making fools. Stop making Fools by projecting the script of Devanagari that is equal to sanskrit.if both Hindi and sanskrit has same alphabets than why there is so much different in each of the sentences when you speak out.

MARK Gnanasigamony (Who am I?) Feb 26 2009
RAYAGADA, India

It was the first mistake the Government of India did after Independence. There were two base languages in the whole of India to give birth to several other languages. They are Sanskrit and Tamil. If Sanskrit is the mother of several of the North Indian languages and also a joint mother with Tamil to form Dravidian three other languages, Sanskrit should have become the Official language of India. This should have provided us an unique status and some distance from Pakistan and Bangladesh as their language has the similarity with Hindi and Bangla. We might have kept the secrecy of our correspondences / communication. Now whatever we speak is easily translated / understood by our neighbours even to the level of common villager and vice versa. If Sanskrit had been declared as Official language of India, it should have been equally learned by the whole population. Now one section of India is in an advantageous position as their mother tongue itself is Hindi while the others have to learn ’one more language’. By this wrong decision we not only killed the rich language but also the unity / equality among all states on language issue. It is not very late now. The Government of India can wake up and declare Sanskrit as its National Language as it binds the words spoken by every person in the whole of India.
